Anchor Institute

As part of our ongoing commitment to research benefiting children and families, the Anchor Institute is proud to offer the Anchor Institute Research Grant 2009.

The Anchor Institute Research Grant recognises post-graduate or post-doctoral students who share Anchor’s goal of helping young children reach their potential.

The Anchor Institute Research Grant supports original research in key areas of human nutrition for child and family health. In keeping with this, the majority of research funded through the Anchor Institute Research Grant Programme will be about the health, nutrition and development of healthy children from ordinary families.  

Specifically, the Anchor Institute has identified the following of fields of research interest:

  • Understanding the nutritional status of young children
  • Nutritional benefits of Dairy products for young children
  • The impact of nutrition on child health, physical, mental or emotional development, with a focus on helping young children to meet their full potential

The Anchor Institute Research Grant does not normally fund:

  • Studies in vitro or research undertaken on animals (non-human)
  • Research on Food Policy or Regulations, Food Technology or Food Production

Grant Funding Amount

The Anchor Institute has committed funds towards the Research Grant in 2009. Depending upon the applications, this may be given to one project or split among several smaller projects. A budget must be provided as part of any application.

Eligibility

Successful applicants must:

  • Be engaged in post-graduate study through a University
  • Be conducting research in one of the Anchor Institute areas of interest (above)
  • Be resident and conducting research in one of the following countries:
  • Philippines
  • Sri Lanka
  • Saudi Arabia 
  • United Arab Emirates

Anchor Institute announces winner of the 2008 research grant

Congratulations to Ng Min Jie, a graduate student from Universiti Putra Malaysia, who is the winner of the 2008 Anchor Institute Research Grant valued at USD12,000.

The grant will go towards a year-long study to determine parents’ attitudes towards their children’s nutritional intake in the early years. The findings will provide useful evidence to develop a nutritional guide for Malaysian parents aimed at reducing obesity in young children.   

This research will be supervised by Professor Khor Geok Lin, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
